Recording 1040 - May 17th 2023

News from Evesham Journal of the 4th and 11th May and the Observer of the 12th May and includes Family Announcements for the two weeks.

News items range from an amazing fundraising effort for the Air Ambulance Services after the fatal accident involving Chipping Campden School students, spearheaded by their friends to the unveiling of a memorial in Abbey Park to 'the pink imp', Iris Pinkstone, a founding member and long-serving Chair of The Simon de Montfort Society. There is a surprising item about the scarcity, and hence, expense, of our local delicacy, asparagus and the miles people are travelling to buy some. There are several items on the Coronation celebrations including mention of Percy Pig who made a popular appearance and the memories of one royal fan from the coronation of the late Queen.

The Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage's poem to mark the occasion was also read - quite a moving account of an 'ordinary' person's experience of being invited.

What's On includes advance warning of a huge Morris Men gathering in Evesham in June.

There is another very interesting Sports Report from Tony Perfect, which explains with some regret the demise of the Evesham Cricket Club.

To end the recording 'Getting Presents' an entertaining piece not to be missed.
